Jamie LaBarber came to us a few years ago and booked several jobs, but this past couple of years have really taken off for her and she is booking consistently now!  Here's a little inside info on Jamie....

Rage: Jamie, where are you from originally?  Can you tell us a little about your background?

Jamie:  I'm originally from Orange County, CA! Growing up, my sister and I participated in nearly every possible activity - my Mom wanted to keep us busy and expose us to many opportunities...from chess to dance to playing baritone in honors band, and softball, basketball, even taking golf lessons!

As we got older, we had and to narrow the field to focus on one thing - dance stuck! I've been dancing since I was five years old (ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, pointe, hop hop, modern, etc.) and continue to dance today...then in 4th grade, I performed in my first musical theatre production, Hercules. That's when I realized I had a passion for performing and acting! In musical theatre, I was recognized as an outstanding performer, winning acting awards and scholarships to acting camp.

That's when I really got the confidence to pursue a career in the entertainment world...one small problem, I didn't know "how". God answered that for me. During my first year in HS, while at the mall with a friend, a woman approached me and said I should act and model. I met with her, took acting classes in Newport Beach where I met me first agent, Joann Smolen, from RAGE. Apparently, it was God's plan that I pursue entertainment and He brought me right here to RAGE.

Rage: What influenced you above all to begin modeling?

Jamie:
Oddly enough, modeling was never part of my plan. When I signed with my RAGE agent for acting, she also took me on for print. I never thought of myself as a model - I was an honor student and athlete most of my life, not some thin, exotic beauty. In the beginning, I was very insecure, always comparing myself to the other girls at casting, thinking I wasn't tall, skinny, or pretty enough...not the right "type", etc.

I kept showing up anyway and began to book some jobs here and there. It wasn't until I began fit modeling when I really gained confidence about my body: I book jobs because of my body - the part I'm most insecure about. That's when I realized it's okay if I am not super super thin or super super tall. I'm okay just the way I am and THIS is what gets me work - not the idea in my head of what I want to look like. Thanks to fit modeling, I have grown to be extremely comfortable in my own skin...something I struggled with my entire life.

Rage: Hence, our tag line, "Real Models for Real Clothes for Real People"! Lol

Rage: Do you have a driving muse and/or role model whom you look up to the most?

Jamie: My mom is definitely my biggest role model. She has the best attitude, drive, and work ethic of anyone I know. Because of her, I am able to take rejection, accept it, and move on with a positive attitude knowing there will be plenty more opportunities to come.

Rage: What is your most memorable/proudest modeling moment?

Jamie: There are so many, how do I pick one? Seriously, every job I book continues to amaze me and gives me great pride and gratitude...from traveling across country, seeing my image on life-size posters, websites, and designers asking my opinion on styles, etc.! It continue to awe me!

One stand-out moment was modeling alongside someone I'd been admiring for a long time. I was pinning images of her on Pinterest and following her work, looking up to her and striving to be like her. Then, low and behold, I'm working alongside her. To think I was doing a job alongside a girl whom I admire and strive to be like made me feel incredible and very blessed.

Another memorable moment was the fit job I did for Kylie and Kendall Jenner's clothing line. It was intimidating  and a little unerving to be modeling for two girls who are a huge part of American pop culture! It was very cool!

Rage: What advice would you give someone who is trying to break into this industry?

Jamie: Know who you are and know how hard your're willing to work. I don't think people really understand the investment, time commitment, sacrifice, and competitive nature of the business. My biggest advice is to keep pushing forward, to maintain a positive attitude, and NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE.

Rage: Jamie, aside from modeling, what are your other passions? What do you do with your free time?

Jamie: I am most passionate about acting. I spend a lot of time pursuing that career and fine-tuning my craft. I'm also a student, so I spend a lot of time studying and doing homework so that I can finish my education, get my degree, and have both brains and beauty!

For fun, I love being outdoors. I enjoy going to the beach, hiking, camping, learning to surf, snowboarding, going to the lake, etc. I also enjoy spending time with my family, going to church, hitting the gym, yoga, and movies!

Rage: If you were not modeling, what would you foresee yourself doing?

Jamie: Growing up, I wanted to be a news anchor. I would watch the news every morning with my parents and I dreamed of being the next Katie Couric on the Today Show. I would even record videos of myself doing newscasts, playing action scenes from movies on the TV in the background behind me and pretending I was doing real news coverage.

I know I will always be in the entertainment industry in some way, shape, or form. I will never be someone stuck in a cubicle all day: that's just not for me! Ideally, I would love to act for the rest of my life!

Thanks Jamie for giving us some insight into your life and career.  You are truly beautiful on the inside and outside and RAGE MODELS is proud to represent you!
